David Krystal has always lived near the ocean. Born and raised on Long Island, in New York. He spent three years in San Diego before finally making his home on the Big Island of Hawaii. But it was Kailua-Kona, with its natural beauty and tropical setting, where his fascination with the sea really began.

Always an avid swimmer, David became a certified diver so he could get closer to the beautiful creatures he saw beneath the surface. One of these, the Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle called 'Honu', truly fascinated him as he found himself surrounded by these graceful creatures time and time again in the shallow waters. Hawaiians say that because this happend so frequently perhaps he shares the spirit of 'aumakua'.

The Honu series is yet another chapter in David's photographic portfolio. Other works include publicity photography for various theatre groups, magnificent Kona sunsets and also solo portrait prieces.

David's attraction to the Hawaiian islands stems from a great love of the ocean and nature. With all the majestic beauty that Hawaii has to offer, David has expanded his portfolio to also include some of the dazzling scenery that Hawaii is known for, such as its waterfalls, mountains and valleys.

David is an exciting and creative photographer, who has captured the essence of the Honu and this tropical paradise in his supurb fresh photography. David spends as much time in the water with the Honu as possible. He finds these wonderful creatures to be peaceful and tranquil. Swimming amongst them relaxes him and he feels blessed to be able to earn his living doing what he loves.

Most recently, one of David’s most popular Honu images (0012A) was featured for the month of June in the state's highest selling Calendar, the 2004 Hawaiian Tide calendar. Davids image 0027K Kiholo Bay was a calendar award winner in 2005 and 0013K Honu Kissing won in 2006. Also, Pololu' Valley (0016P) won Honorable Mention. David’s work is in collections all over the world. He is represented in numerous galleries in Australia and was featured in the 2003 Gold Coast International Small Business Show. David was the only American represented as well as the only photographer invited to show his work. His newest inspiration is his son "Benjamin Grant" born August 13, 2003.
